'The hills are alive, with the sound of music' (and innuendo)

Um, guys. Look what popped up in my facebook newsfeed today.
LOOK.
WASHINGTON SINGING 'O HOLY NIGHT'!

<3
Still not my favourite version, but it's my favourite artist singing my favourite carol. Exciting stuff!

And back to real life. I've had a pretty great couple of days shopping, clothes yesterday with snuggle_monster and pebblegosling and cds today. I ended up with quite a lot of the latter, and am very happy to have lots of new music. It'll make all the driving I'll be doing over the next couple of weeks much more bearable.

The first dress rehearsal for the production of 'The Sound of Music' was tonight - and may I say, this is so much fun. I can't quite believe I'm getting paid for this. Not much, but still!
I didn't really stop laughing all night. Let me give you an idea of what it's like. It's a pit full of good musicians, playing the music to a fairly innocent musical (in a lot of respects anyway). Most of said musicians have a wicked sense of humour, and manage to find/make sexual innuendos out of EVERYTHING. Throw in musical interjections of famous classical pieces (bastardised versions, naturally), themes from tv shows and the like and you have one damn funny rehearsal.
Examples:
-There is a line in the song 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen' that says 'you life, little girl, is an empty page that men will want to write on' but the diction of the person singing isn't the best and it sometimes comes out as 'to ride on' ... cue smirks and giggles from all us musos.
-Some of the songs that ended up being played were the theme from the Addams Family - complete with finger clicking, Hark the Herald Angels Sing (all of the strings joined in. epic), Bananas in Pajamas, even 'If you're happy and you know it' ... which was started by the violist, J, and continued by a trumpet player XD
-At one point the atmosphere is supposed to be ominous and so P was told to do glissandos, so J decides to start interjecting with the psycho shower scene motif. And then one of the cellists starts doing the Jaws theme.
-J did my trick of coming into a conversation at exactly the most suss point. We were talking about how we didn't know how much tickets to the show cost, and P said something along the lines of 'you can't use those pretend cheques you write when you're little either, I've tried to use them, they don't work' ... J only heard from 'I've tried ...' and was like WHAT?! XD

By far the funniest part for me, though, is that P (who called my up for the gig, is a family friend) was so worried that they were 'corrupting me' and that my mother would kill her for it. My reaction: psht I went to [insert name of my all girls school], if you knew my highschool friends you wouldn't worry about this corrupting me.
Actually, pebblegosling, you'd be right in your element.

I've let this go for a while, but here we are again with the meme.
DAY01: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.
DAY02: Nine things about yourself.
DAY03: Eight ways to win your heart.
DAY04: Seven things that cross your mind a lot.

'Shit Lauren that was stupid. Why did you say/do that?!'

'I wonder what's for dinner'

*sings line of song* 'Fuuu what's the next bit?'

'Hmm I wonder how [insert name of any friend] is doing...'

Whatever I have to do for the rest of the day.

'I should practice'

'Must remember must remember must remember...' *forgets*

DAY05: Six things you wish you’d never done.
DAY06: Five people who mean a lot (in no order whatsoever).
DAY07: Four turn offs.
DAY08: Three turn ons.
DAY09: Two images that describe your life right now, and why.
DAY10: One confession.

And lastly, but certainly not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! To [livejournal.com profile] pebblegosling .
Have a great day!

Glad its going so well, sounds like so much fun :D

=D
It really is.

It's funny, because I felt exactly the same way about the way she sung it. I mean, I LOVE her and the carol, and she did it beautifully, but this is the only time I've ever heard a cover she's done where I've just preferred other versions.

And to the classical musos making innuendo about everything- what is there to say really? XD It's what we do best :D It is our job to make seemingly, pretty music, suddenly laden with a WHOLE new meaning ;)

But it sounds like so much fun!! But pfft, I'm not sure if they quite realise how much a girl's school corrupts you in itself in the first place. I love it!

#7 in your list is the story of my life. But good list!

*laughs* Formatting fail.

!!
Glad you agree. But yep, the first time I prefered other versions after hearing hers.

It was so funny. I can't even... you'd love it.
They really don't realise. They think I'm giggling because I'm half-amused half-embarrassed, when really, it's just hilarious.

HAHAHAHA XD

LOL at the 'must remember,' that thought crosses my mind a LOT. XD

TEE HEE MUSOS. Reminds me of my orchestra days. Orch dorks are silly things. Add band geeks and it just gets crazy, hahaha XD

[identity profile] rdm-ation.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Heh XD

AHAHAHAH Pray tell, what is the difference between a muso as I describe them and band geeks. I'm not seeing a lot of difference ... XD

[identity profile] bugbeary.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA! See we don't have the term 'muso' here, there's just band geeks and orch dorks. They're similar, but band geeks are more geeky and immature and pack-like, and orch dorks are the cool dorks. Maybe because our instruments aren't as loud and our music is more sophisticated. XD It's a fine line, but there's a difference! ;)

[identity profile] rdm-ation.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Heh!
I know you don't use the term, but you've heard me ramble about it enough.

I don't think there's much of a difference here... XD

[identity profile] bugbeary.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! I use muso now, it encompasses musos of all stripes...but there are definitely subcategories, haha! Have you ever spent any significant amount of time around a band? Especially at the high school level? In high school the band and orchestra classes were generally near each other and I had a lot of band friends and there's definitely a distinct band culture vs. orchestra culture. ^^

[identity profile] rdm-ation.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
LOL
Heh. You'd have to ask pebblegosling, she played trumpet as well as cello and was in every ensemble imaginable at school. Whereas I only play violin (well, and piano) so orchestra was pretty much it :P

[identity profile] utopiandream.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for lots of new music and haha at P not having to worry about you being corrupted. ;)

'Must remember must remember must remember...' *forgets*

Same here, friend, same here!

=D
So funny. She was so mortified for me... XD XD XD

I think that's a common thread among these comments :P
