'Now I'm stuck with that song... Now it's in my head.'
Semester 1: complete!
Well, classes anyway. It's enough for me.
My last few days have basically been me procrastinating practice for this conducting assessment I had today - which turned out to be pretty easy. Not worth the vague nerves.
I've been running around, having my first lesson in weeks (it went really well so yay!), taking my old number plates back, working, and then today was my last day of classes.
Indo was alright, pretty standard class today just talking about the exam etc, and then Bu Y gave this really sweet speech telling us that she will help any of us with referrals for exchanges/other programs and that she hopes we all continue. So cute.
Then, it was 3 hours of break, spent with thalia03 and snuggle_monster (the latter who I haven't seen properly in about 2 weeks) which was fun, even though we were all under varying levels of last-minute assignment stress.
Onto my English tute. I really do (did?) like that group, some interesting people - and all very friendly. Today's tute was utterly hysterical. We're studying a play by Samuel Beckett called 'Endgame' - it's very black humour, but can come across as very cynical, existential, and often depressing as all hell. Today we were told we were having a debate, after the class presentations. The topic was 'should we enjoy Endgame?' ... our side was the affirmative, and we outlined our arguments (which were all quite logical, in my opinion) while our tutor wrote notes on the board. Normal, right? Wrong. His shorthand was so funny. There are two characters in the play who have no limbs and live in dustbins (yeah, it's absurdist, don't even ask) so he drew a bin and then put = fun as a summary of one of our arguments about the bleak humour. Then, it was up to this (kind of obnoxious) guy on the other team to outline theirs - he's amusing, he just read some of the notes baldly as things like 'it's existential propaganda' and left them there.
What was insanely hilarious, though, was when it came time for them to do the last rebuttal, the girl just went on this entire;y deadpan, serious, very-typical-debating style rant like 'I am disgusted that some members of this debate can find enjoyment in this play, it is full of human suffering and misery' etc etc etc. Everyone was in hysterics, except her. Because she'd just done her presentation on how she thought the play was actually very funny. I have no idea how she managed to keep a straight face, talent, right there.
Then I had another 2 hours chilling/studying with a girl who I just met, the conducting test, and then back to hang out some more with snuggle_monster and thalia03. And THEN it took me an hour to get home. Since then, I've been on my computer, enjoying that I can relax for a night. I had work off because I wouldn't have gotten back in time from the exam as well. Which is nice.
Tomorrow I have teaching work, and then I am off to a church-group camp-thing with N. It will be fun, I haven't had a chance to go to any of their events this semester. I'll be back home on Sunday night.
Phew! I think that's all the real life updating I wanted to do. Now, there are a couple of things I want to share.
Firstly, my mother finds the most randomly entertaining things on the internet.
She showed me this on the train home from her choral concert the other night - I was in hysterics at the shark bit.
Then, tonight, she tells me to go look up 'Disney in the style of...' on naxos. You know, classical music website. I am such a music nerd, this has kept me entertained for a fair few minutes. Just, so epic!
My favourite is Chim Chim Cher-ee. Or Someday My Prince Will Come.. OR... Yeah, I can't choose. XD
Another amusement of mine today, is that I have decided that snuggle_monster and my friendship resembles Marlin and Dory's from Finding Nemo. I'm Marlin, and she's Dory. After watching a few clips today, I cannot unsee this. It's hilarious. Half the time, I was just mentioning my favourite parts of the movie, we'd watch them and then I'd realise that whatever Dory said/did she would *totally* do. Made my afternoon. Take this, for example.
'Hey there little guy...'
Last, but never least, I have to make my appreciation of one of the people I follow on tumblr known, neaf. Her writing is amazing, and even just her responses to people's asks are just gorgeous and often exactly what I need to hear at any given time. Today was no exception. Here are a couple of quotes from her that I read today, and I just melted. <3
"we are what we make of ourselves. we are the very same matter that makes up the stars in the sky, and we shine just as bright when we understand we can."
"love wounds as much as it heals. but believe you deserve love, and you will surely find it. or rather, it will surely find you."
Her fanfiction is always stunningly written, and can be utterly beautiful, captivating, or insanely hilarious. Often all three at once. I know most of you won't be interested, but her tumblr is here - if you are in any way interested in Darren Criss/Chris Colfer then do yourself a favour and go read her work.
I think that's more than enough from me, now. I'd better go pack!
