I think I've reached new heights of burn out. Why do I keep doing this to myself?!?

I apologise in advance for this post, as I don't even know why I'm posting at all apart from the fact that I haven't in a while. And I'm totally bored, and totally procrastinating.

A week's worth of crap... )

Ah study. Why must you be so draining?
It's possibly because it's too late at night, my brain is just refusing to take anything in. I've now read the same few lines about 5 times and can't really remember any of it.

Oh well, I managed to get 2.5 hours of practice done this morning - a slight read: huge improvement on the past weeks. Oh and I did about an hour of musicianship this morning. I'd actually fogotten that. I've definitely been awake too long.

On another random note, Stephane Grapelli is just amazing. I mean wow. He's a jazz violinist (not many of them around I know) and his music is just gorgeous to listen to. I would love to be able to play like that, but at the moment that is just a crazy crazy idea. I really don't think in chords, and god forbid me actually being creative on the spot! I'll just add it to the long list of things I'd love to learn. Wishful thinking most likely.

"I knew of a band who called themselves 'Fantastical Aida' just so they could name their first album 'Sweet F.A.'"  <-- Seriously, why are these people so cool...

*sigh* Well that was a random, short, disjointed, and probably boring post. So I'll just stop before I make it worse.

Here I am, keeping up my streak of consistant (ish) blogging =)

So, where do I start this time? *sings* 'Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start! When you read you begin with A, B, C - when you sing you begin with Do Re Mi'
I could keep going, but I won't =P

Yesterday morning, after my realisation of sorts (read here) I decided I was going to bite the bullet and do some work. So, I spent the day doing a little bit of practice (that was mainly unproductive in itself, oh well, I tried), hand-writing my history notes (evidently I haven't written anything that substantial in a while, I had a ridiculous dent in my middle finger...), learning pieces for aural, planning out my creative piece for keyboard, etc etc etc. I was so proud of myself, as I worked from about 10am until just after midnight, with a few well-deserved breaks. I even managed to continue studying while on msn. Now that is an achievement. I also found a recording of our new ensemble piece. It. Is. AWESOME. *grins*

In one of said breaks - I finally ordered Between the Trees' new album. 'Spain', as well as an actual copy of 'The Story and the Song'. They won't be here for a few weeks - but even so, I'm happy. Although my bank account seems to be drifting downwards again, I'll feel better on Friday (yay for paydays after working extra shifts =P). Plus my brother has promised to pay me back for Mum's present then too. It's all good.

Onto today. I woke up early, with my alarm surprisingly and set out to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] harpisanfor coffee. We do like Cafe No. 5 in Degraves St (although neither of us knew it's name until recently) mainly because it has good, *cheap* coffee. Two days into my new resolve to go into uni early every day to practice, it's going well. I managed to do an hour and a half of decent practice - I really love when I can see improvement in such a short space of time. I've all but given up on getting 4 hours a day, I just lose focus and it ends up not helping me at all. Not that I would *ever* say that to a certain teacher. He wouldn't be too happy.

Then it was on to keyboard class, listening to J sing a Tom Lehrer song, talking about things ranging from improvising violinists (I must remember to look him up) to the reasons some people shouldn't teach to and the obligatory key changes in pop music =P. As per normal, not much real work got done.

Just for laughs, I'll list the songs [profile] harpisanand I sang (or whistled) at any point today:
 - Lord of the Dance
 - The Waltz from Sleeping Beauty
 - The Liberty Bell March - Otherwise known as the theme from Monty Python
 - It Sucks To Be Me
 -  Macarthur Park (we call it the 'cake-in-the-rain song')

That's all for now, I need to get back to work.
