'Kings don't need advice from little hornbills for a start'
*hums*
Love that song and movie so so so much. Twas also amazing watching it with someone who had only recently found out that Zazu was voiced by Rowan Atkinson. Tehehe.

That was highly amusing, but not exactly the best place to start a recap of an amazing weekend that lived up to all my expectation of it. So I shall try again.

The last time I posted about actual life was ... last Tuesday? Maybe. I don't even remember. It's been a bizarre week. Really odd. I've felt like I was floating along in a daze for most of it - an entirely un-motivated daze. Certain events brought back altogether unhappy memories, and I think it dragged me down a fair bit. I also didn't really do much study, and am continuing that trend right now. Oh well. Anyway, I had 2 exams for the same component of a unit, Aural studies. The singing one was ok, I stuffed up some easy stuff from nerves at the start, then nailed the really difficult stuff. It's just how I roll! The written one ... yeah it'll take a miracle for me to pass that.

Besides exams, I had a good lesson with both my teacher and my accompanist for my recital, so I'm actually feeling ok about that at this point. Definitely need to do a lot more work in the coming week though.

Thursday and Friday nights were quite, well, horrible for me. I was just getting frustrated and down on everything, and the only thing keeping my going was the knowledge of the weekend approaching. I can't even really explain why I was feeling so crap, and I sure am glad of the timing of the past couple of days.

Onto the EPIC WEEKEND!
Started off as normal, with work, which was fairly standard. Then I just bummed around at home, and got ready to go and see Celtic Woman with [livejournal.com profile] snuggle_monster , [livejournal.com profile] harpisan  and her boyfriend. After much stuffing around with public transport issues, the rain, and parking problems we finally made it, a few minutes late. Which kind of sucked, and then I was flustered and took a few minutes to calm down and get into it. I'm going to steal snuggle_monsters description, because I couldn't have said it better.

'It was EPIC. It actually was. I wish that word wasn't thrown around so much nowadays, because it has lost its impact as a word. But, nonetheless, it was EPIC. AWEsome. (Same with the word 'awesome' too actually. People don't use it in its real sense)(Oh well)
Well, it wasn't just awesome. It had a bit more than some awe to it. It was awefilled.

It was actually a spectacle. Dramatic lights, intense bodhran drum solos, lame swaying side-to-side dancing, epic vocal harmonies- the lot. It was EVEN topped off with a dancing pixie playing virtuosic violin
.'
It was a lot of fun. And I must say, Mairead (violinist, video below) is amazing. Not only can I not play like her, I can't dance around like she does. Let alone at the same time.

She's so brilliant. <3 (just LOOK at that string crossing)

As always, there is one song that makes me tear up. On Saturday it was this one. I dislike this song when it's belted, I think it can lose the sentiment behind it. This was just so gorgeously done.
When You Believe
One thing that amused me greatly was that they all sing in such pure, clear voices, but then they talk in really really thick Irish accents.

Added flail: I just looked up imdb for The Prince of Egypt - where that song is from - and there are SO MANY actors I know, but didn't associate at the time. I used to adore that movie! Whoa. For instance, who knew Sandra Bullock was Miriam. Who?!?

Also, harpisan and her bf are just a bit too cute!

I then headed off on a long, convoluted trip to snuggle_monster's house, where we stayed up until 6am watching The Lion King, drinking champagne, giggling and then having intensely serious discussions. I love her to pieces. I love finding people who think the same way as me, and just understand when I feel no one else really does.
Her dog is possibly the cutest ever. He decided he loved me, and even her cat did. Which is apparently abnormal.
Broke my record for staying up too, we heard birds and realised we should probably think about sleeping...

On Sunday we just relaxed, before I got ready for [livejournal.com profile] wolfielove 's Halloween party. It was a lot of fun, although I felt a bit awkward at first. That soon disappeared though as I realised that her friends are awesome. Yep. Thanks for the invite! I had a great time chatting, and laughing at poke wars, and eating yummy food. Especially the cake. That was delicious.
And here, as promised, is a photo of myself dressed as Lady Macbeth. One solitary photo, as I forgot my camera. Boo.

Not a great photo of me, but you get the idea.

After all of that I came home and crashed, and today I slept in far more than I meant to. I've done absolutely no study for my Indonesian Oral exam on Wednesday, which should worry me but doesn't. Bah.
Tomorrow is for cramming.

A couple of things have brightened my mood considerably though - I played 'The Contradiction' with a reasonable sense of fluidity when I couldn't do that at all a couple of months ago (one of the fiddle pieces Mairead from Celtic Woman played), and I looked up some of the InCountry programs listed in our unit guides and there are a couple that look completely amazing, and customisable, and not too expensive. I got all excited again. Which is a great thing.

And now I have rambled enough, and to those who got to this point kudos.

SO much love for that movie. Favourite lines:
'If this is where the monarchy is headed count me out, out of service, out of Africa, I wouldn't hang about'

'I always thought that they were balls of gas burning millions of miles away'
'Pumbaa, with you everything's gas'

The whole section before/after Can You Feel the Love Tonight
XD

OH did you ever watch the Timon and Pumbaa series??
