I have had a fantastic couple of days. Firstly, well, I overslept (again) and had to rush to meet up with some people from my old church for lunch. Which was boring, but made bearable by the very cute waiter serving us. Tehehe.
After that, I headed home again because
pebblegosling was coming over so we could go to a carols service (at the church my parents go to now). It was fun, actually, and I am definitely more in the Christmas spirit now. Which is great. It reminded me a lot of what I miss about going to church. And also what I don't miss, which turned into an interesting (and slightly heated, on my part) discussion about faith vs religion.
One great thing that happened was that I ran into my teacher from year 8. She goes to that church now, and I finally got to meet her daughter (who is insanely cute). Let me backtrack a bit here as to why this is a big deal. She was my absolute favourite teacher of all the teachers I have ever had. She was a great teacher, and a completely lovely person. She was one of the few people at that school who made me feel like I was worth their time. Of course, being my family, she used to be one of my mum's good friends when they were younger - odd coincidence huh. It was so so so lovely to see her again - as adults, too. I did the whole 'look, double-take, 'IS THAT?!' *practically runs over to say hi*' thing. I am so glad that the adoption finally went through and that she's found the sort of happiness that I hope to have. She deserves it - let me just put it this way, she gave me hope then, and she still does. <3
After the carols service we were joined by snuggle_monster, watched part of A Very Potter Musical, and then talked until 3am. Well, pebblegosling fell asleep earlier than that - but you get the idea. One of our main discussion points was the comparison between pebblegosling herself and one Darren Criss. You see, it creeps us out a bit that I am currently fangirling over someone who has a fair bit in common with her...
Exhibit A: they have very similar physical mannerisms
Exhibit B: they speak in very similar ways
Exhibit C: they both go off on insane tangents that leave other people scratching their head going 'how did the conversation get here?'
Exhibit D: they both have ringlet-esque curls when their hair is the right length (heh. this one amused us no end last night, pebblegosling hadn't made the connection)
Exhibit E: they both love Disney
Exhibit G: they both love music, and in addition play the cello
Exhibit H: they are both totally awesome, in my eyes.
Today, once we eventually got up and moving (we were only out of the house by 4pm ... XD) I headed into the city and I finished my Christmas shopping. Guess who's avoiding shopping centres for the rest of the week?
Then, being me, I just wandered around for a while, looked at pretty journals, and ended up at Haighs (chocolate shop) where I bought the most awesome chocolate bar I've ever eaten. 'Chai bar'. It was amazing. NOM NOM NOM.
I also ended up getting a neck/shoulder massage - best idea. I feel so much better now, especially after sleeping on my crappy sofa bed mattress last night.
Meme time now.
DAY01: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.
DAY02: Nine things about yourself.
I've done this a few times, so I'm going to try to do this in relation to Christmas!
1. I love buying presents. (I love getting them too)
2. I tend to forget how loud and obnoxious my family (especially mum's side) can be until Christmas Day rolls around.
3. I want a decent Christmas cd. I have none myself, and the music is what gets me in the spirit. Youtube is my friend in the meantime.
4. I honestly have no idea what I want this year. Good luck to my family =P
5. My brother organised mum and dad's presents this year. Which is a very odd occurrence, I am usually the one left to this task...
6. I am working on Christmas morning this year - first time in my life that I will not be going to church on Christmas Day. Still not sure how I feel about that.
7. One tradition I love in my household is watching 'Carols by Candlelight' on tv on Christmas Eve, and then rewatching it with the whole of Dad's side of the family on Christmas Day, with running commentary on the singing/music from everyone. Cue amicable disagreements, especially with the non-musos. I've never actually been to it live, and would love to some day.
8. My favourite Christmas carol is O Holy Night. This version is stunning. I guess I grew up loving this song, my Mum loves it and sings it often <3 It's a shame that it is sung terribly as often as it is sung beautifully.
9. My favourite Christmas song is harder to pick, but Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is up there. Yes, ok, this is a recently found version that needs no explanation as to why I love it.
DAY03: Eight ways to win your heart.
DAY04: Seven things that cross your mind a lot.
DAY05: Six things you wish you’d never done.
DAY06: Five people who mean a lot (in no order whatsoever).
DAY07: Four turn offs.
DAY08: Three turn ons.
DAY09: Two images that describe your life right now, and why.
DAY10: One confession.
And because I simply can't help myself, have another Darren Criss video. 'You know it's a party when the suspenders come off ... I don't need them, my pants are staying up just fine.'
snuggle_monster 's response to that: damn.
