Oh my god guys, it was awesome.
I have decided that I love midnight showings. The atmosphere is epic. So epic. Cheering, clapping, booing, laughing when something is meant to be serious but is completely hilarious... WIN.
So, there were a few of us who decided to go, and (most of us) went all out with the costumes. I'll have to do a picture post later when I can get the photos myself, but for now have a rundown of characters.
I went as Bellatrix, as I have said, and apparently succeeded in looking fantastically evil and creepy.
harpisan went as Molly Weasley, and we were pretty happy with our selections considering the battle scene ;)
thalia03 was a Hufflepuff student/mascot complete with awesome yellow cape
Ame was Professor Trelawney
S was Hogwarts student no. 43434324
M was Tonks
I think snuggle_monster won though. She went as Hedwig.
A few of us got asked for a photo by this random girl, and snuggle_face had someone come up and ask for one, and then got really excited, pointed to her head and said, I quote, 'oh my god I was so sad when you died, can I take a photo with you?'
I think her selfconsciousness about her costume choice vanished about then.
The best costume I saw though would HAVE to be the big guy dressed pretty convincingly as Hagrid, but the best bit was that the person with him was in a dog costume. Yep. People came as Hagrid and Fang. =D
Now, for the actual movie itself...
I really enjoyed it. The cinematography was stunning. Absolutely gorgeous. I think they did a good job too of deciding what to include, I've never been a huge fan of the movies because I'm too much of a book fan and I nitpick, but they've really stepped up with the last two movies.
The music was particularly good this time too.
I didn't cry, but I was damn close in the Snape flashbacks. It was pretty sad in the books, but I am not a very visual person when I'm reading - but seeing it on the screen was just so so sad. Alan Rickman you are amazing.
As is Maggie Smith. In my head I call Deathly Hallows 'the one where everyone becomes totally badass' because it's so true. The moment I loved was when she was leading the defense of Hogwarts, and she casts a spell to make the statues come to life to protect the castle. So deadly serious, and then she turns, skips, and with pure glee in her voice says 'I've always wanted to use that spell' XD
Some of my favourite moments were included, which made me really happy.
Of course, 'Not my daughter, you bitch!' was there, and met with this huge cheer from the theatre full of people... epic.
The scene with Harry after he's died and sees Dumbledore was almost exactly how I'd pictured it, which is something that never really happens to me. It happened with the scene immediately after too, with Narcissa asking him if Draco is alive and then saying that Harry is dead - exactly how I'd pictured. I flailed quite a bit when Dumbledore said 'Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on Earth should that mean it is not real?' That is probably my favourite quote from the entire book.
Ron and Hermione's kiss was so randomly set but it worked and was so adorable.
Also, hinted Neville/ Luna was so cute and amusing.
'Hey Harry have you seen Luna?'
'No, why?'
'I've got the hots for her, and figured now'd be a great time to tell her seeing as we'll all most likely be dead by morning' XD XD XD
The battle sequences were so damn cool.
Alright and now for the funny moments, both intentional and not.
As for intentional, Helena Bonham Carter is a GOD. I have not been able to get the image of Hermione!Bellatrix out of my head. It was hilarious. Stumbling on the heels, being far too nice, and the expression on her face was PRICELESS. Seriously. It's one thing to be able to play Bellatrix well (which she does every single time) but to be able to convey Hermione pretending to be Bellatrix? Amazing. *grins*
As for unintentional, there were too many.
Voldemort's supposedly evil laugh was just so funny. It was this tiny chuckle and omg it was not terrifying at all.
Voldemort and Harry jumping off a ledge and then blurring into each other? Want to look like you're about to kiss him even more? No? Okay.
I think my favourite, though, is when Voldemort tried to give Draco a hug when he came back over from the Hogwarts side of things.
That awkward moment when the Dark Lord tries to hug you. IT WAS THE MOST AWKWARD HUG EVER.
There were more, but my mind is blanking now...
Oh my god the ending. I just... I can't. That was the funniest bit out of the entire thing because it was SO ridiculous. They tried to age everyone up, and it just failed. Epically. Daniel Radcliffe will age well if it's any indication, Rupert Grint not so much. They were the only two that actually looked older. Emma Watson did not look a day older than she is, we were asking what kind of anti aging potions she used...
Ginny, oh god, Ginny. She didn't look older, but they made her somehow look frumpy and her hair was the most ridiculous red thing I've seen. The kids were cute though XD
Have I mentioned that I love Neville? Because I do. A lot. And Luna. <3
Also, Matt Lewis, you got really really attractive. Just saying.
On the way there we listened to wizard rock, because we could, and on the way home our discussions got... interesting. I am blocking most of it from my memory, but let me jsut say - it revolved around fanfic pairings. pebblegosling you would be proud...
And now I'm off, because I need a shower and feel totally gross. My hair is like straw because of all the hairspray that is in it - it did look freaking awesome I must say.
